Pisang Cavendish

Musa acuminata Cavendish

The Cavendish banana (Musa acuminata ‘Dwarf Cavendish’) is one of the most widely cultivated and consumed banana varieties globally. Originally from Southeast Asia, Cavendish bananas are now grown in tropical regions globally, including Central and South America, Africa, and the Philippines. The bananas are known for its smooth texture and sweet flavor, that typically grow to about 7-8 inches long.

Nature of The Plant

Cavendish bananas are rich in vitamin C, B6, potassium, and fiber, providing various health benefits such as improved digestion, heart health, and immune support. Compared to yellow bananas, some banana varieties, such as red bananas and Blue Java, have higher antioxidant content, including phenolic compounds and beta-carotene, as well as increased vitamin C and fiber with a lower glycemic index. Blue Java bananas also contain manganese, magnesium, copper, and protein but have lower levels of iron, phosphorus, thiamine, and selenium. The antioxidant content in these banana varieties helps protect cells from damage and may help prevent chronic diseases such as heart problems and diabetes.
