Averrhoa carambola var. Dewi

Originated in Indonesia, it grows well in various soil types in tropical regions like Java, Indonesia, and is widely consumed in Asia. They are a common ingredient in Ayurvedic and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), with antioxidant, hypoglycemic, hypocholesterolemic, anti-inflammatory, and anti-tumor effects.

Nature of The Plant

They are a common ingredient in Ayurvedic (Traditional Indian Medicine) and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) to treat ailments like fever, cough, diarrhea, eczema, and fungal skin infections. The anti-infective effects have been confirmed as it has been proven to strongly inhibit the growth of bacteria E. coli.

In other studies, star fruit has shown hypocholesterolemic and antitumor effects on animal models. In human studies involving elderly patients, those who consumed starfruit every day for a period of time showed increased antioxidant status and higher levels of vitamin C and vitamin A. One of the theories of aging states that the aging process is strongly believed to be related to, or caused by oxidative stress and shows symptoms or diseases of aging, such as chronic diseases that are common in the geriatric population.
